TANDO is Sankofa's community film series. TANDO was designed to provide critical information to the community on important issues, not covered in the ‘mainstream media', by providing a different perspective on what we see on the evening news, listen to on the radio, or read in the newspaper. TANDO enables more informed decision-making.

Each TANDO showing utilizes a community person as the facilitator who can share expert knowledge about the topic of the film being shown. The films that have been seen so far have dealt with the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, the movie Sankofa, and hip-hop culture. Each showing has been well attended by the community and inspired critical discussion of the film being shown. To date the community has viewed:

· African Enslavement: Sankofa (the movie)

· Iraq films

· New Orleans: Community developed video about Hurricane Katrina

· Hip-Hip: Beyond Beats and Rhymes

Please check our web site for TANDO updates and scheduled films.
